State Sen. Linda Stewart, D-Orlando, and state Rep. Amy Mercado, D-Fla., brought out a bill raising the penalties on indecent exposure. 

The funds come from FEMA’s Public Assistance program. Seminole County will receive almost $14.5 million while Orlando will get $3 million. 

With two more congressmen bowing out on Monday, 20 Republicans in the U.S. House will not run for reelection in 2020--but the new departures shouldn’t have much of an impact in the Sunshine State.

The current Republicans in the Florida delegation offer a host of new faces even when compared to only a few years ago.  That being the case, don’t expect many Republican retirements in the Florida delegation--but there could be a handful of them. 

First elected to Congress in 2016 when she defeated longtime U.S. Rep. John Mica, R-Fla., Murphy has grown increasingly prominent during her second term in Congress, including being named to the leadership of the Blue Dog Coalition and claiming a seat on the U.S. House Ways and Means Committee.

This week, Central Florida Republican Jan Edwards ended her challenge to U.S. Rep. Stephanie Murphy, D-Fla. After working in telecommunications, Edwards founded the Paving the Way Foundation where she currently serves as a president. U.S. Rep. Stephanie Murphy, D-Fla., told a  crowd at the BakerHostetler conference in Washington D.C. that she stands against her party’s increasingly leftward trend.

On Thursday, sophomore U.S. Rep. Stephanie Murphy, D-Fla., wielded the gavel in the U.S. House, becoming the first Vietnamese-American to lead the chamber as she served as speaker pro tempore. 

With her party now controlling the House, Murphy becomes the only Florida Democrat on the Ways and Means Committee and the first one to sit on it in almost a decade.
