Wrapping up his first month in Congress, U.S. Rep. Carlos Gimenez, R-Fla., will serve on U.S. House Minority Whip Steve Scalise’s, R-La., team over the next two years.

The resolutions were introduced two weeks ago by Pennsylvania Republicans U.S. Sen. Pat Toomey and U.S. Rep. Guy Reschenthaler. Diaz-Balart and U.S. Rep. Steve Chabot, R-Ohio, are the original co-sponsors in the House. 

U.S. Rep. Alcee Hastings, D-Fla., led a letter to Bahamian Prime Minister Hubert Alexander Minnis and Bahamian Environment and Housing Minister Romauld Sotario Ferreira opposing the Bahamas Petroleum Company’s (BPC)  Perseverance No. 1 oil well, off the coast of The Bahamas.

Back in September 2019, Rubio and Demings were joined by U.S. Sen. Jacky Rosen, D-Nev., and U.S. Rep. Jenniffer González-Colón, R-PR, in championing the resolution.

Rubio and U.S. Sen. Dan Sullivan, R-Alaska, brought out the “Coast Guard Shore Infrastructure Improvement Act” in July 2019. Pairing up with U.S. Rep. Garret Graves, R-La., U.S. Rep. Debbie Mucarsel-Powell, D-Fla., brought out the House version in June 2019. 

Back in October, U.S. Rep. Debbie Mucarsel-Powell, D-Fla., introduced the resolution and rounded up almost a dozen members of the Florida delegation behind it. 

Supporters of the Maduro regime took two-thirds of the seats in the National Assembly as only 31 percent of Venezuelan voters cast ballots. 

With political pundits saying this year’s election was a “devastatingly disappointing performance” for Democrats in Florida, some of that party’s elected officials and left-wing progressive groups are still denying that the Defund the Police movement hurt them at the ballot box. But election analysis proves the contrary.

While the NDAA is expected to top $740 million, much of the attention will be on proposals to rename military bases after Confederate leaders. President Donald Trump has threatened to veto any proposal which renames those bases. 

Over the past decade, Florida Republicans have made it a habit of winning the close ones. Rick Scott narrowly edged then state CFO Alex Sink in the 2010 gubernatorial race. Four years later, Scott held off former Gov. Charlie Crist. In 2016, Trump beat out Hillary Clinton in the Sunshine State.

With 98 percent of the vote in Trump had 51 percent of the vote and former Vice President Joe Biden, the Democratic nominee, pulled 48 percent. Florida was a must-win state for Trump as he added its 29 electoral votes to his column.

While the big news in South Florida congressional races was Republicans taking down two Democrat incumbents, other members of the delegation won easily even as a new member emerged.
