According to the congressman’s office, the bill will “direct the Secretary of Defense to compensate members of the Armed Forces for certain taxes deferred pursuant to Internal Revenue Service Notice 2020-65" and “such deferred taxes are withheld by the Secretary of Defense during the period beginning on January 1, 2021 and end by April 30, 2021, the Secretary shall make a payment to such a member in an amount equal to the deferred tax withheld.”
Back in January, U.S. Rep. Michael Waltz, R-Fla., the first Green Beret to serve in Congress, introduced the “United States-Israel PTSD Collaborative Research Act.”
Waltz teamed up with U.S. Rep. Deb Haaland, D-NM, in rounding up more than 30 members of Congress in writing U.S. Defense Sec. Mark Espier on the matter. U.S. Reps. Lois Frankel, D-Fla., Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., and John Rutherford signed the letter which was sent out on Thursday.
Hastings brought out the “National Defense Net Zero Review Act” which “will refocus the Defense Department’s (DoD’s) efforts to achieve net zero and establish the first integrated master plan for achieving net zero energy benchmarks.”
Waltz, U.S. Rep. Andy Kim, D-NJ, and U.S. Rep. Michael Turner, R-Ohio, are all backing U.S. Rep. Kendra Horn’s, D-Okla., “Military Housing Oversight, Maintenance and Enhancement for Servicemembers (HOMES) Act.”
U.S. Rep. Gilbert Cisneros introduced the “End Military-Connected Child Abuse and Neglect Act,” which supporters insist would improve how the Department of Defense tracks and responds to incidents of child abuse and neglect occurring on military installations or involving military dependents,” at the start of the month with Mast as a cosponsor.
Winning an open seat in 2018, Waltz is the first Green Beret to serve in Congress. He sits on the U.S. House Armed Services Committee. McCarthy stressed Waltz’s background when he named him to the task force on Thursday.
